The Isle
The child's metaphor,
template to the later truths
and the invisible friend
stands and sees; all that moves
is witnessed. His eyes
mark out the landmarks
in the landscape's eye.
On the isle where no-one
lives to any age
there is a habitation
and a hearth,
fields for the growing,
and wilderness beyond.
Generations turn; names change.
The Present Perennial
